The GIS Analyst is responsible for designing and developing computer applications and databases, and implementing services in support of departmental users utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS)technology. This position also supports project teams, departments, and other stakeholders with their mapping requirements.

Starting Hourly Range : $46.63 - $53.41

This is an in-person position and may be located in either JBER, or Fairbanks, Alaska.


What you will do

  • Create and maintain the GIS database and perform updates and edits.
  • Prepare maps and data records as necessary.
  • Conduct GPS field collections of utility systems.
  • Review and verify mapping data or themes provided by government agencies or private sector contractors for accuracy and consistency, modifying and correcting database values as necessary.
  • Assist in the evaluation, development, and adaptation of computer software applications for capture, conversion, and maintenance procedures related to GIS.
  • Identify and research external sources of hardware, GIS software, and other resources.
  • Assist and train others on GIS related topics.
  • Participate as a member of project teams, as necessary.
  • Communicate project objectives, plans and status to members of project teams and management.
  • Prepare for and conduct GIS data exchanges with the governmental agencies on a regular basis.
  • Learn, adopt, and apply safety programs.

Conditions of Employment
Must pass a pre-employment drug test, random drug test thereafter in accordance with the published policy of Doyon Utilities. Must have a valid driver's license issued by the State of Alaska. Must be eligible to work on a military installation in Alaska. Eligibility to work on a military installation includes compliance with Department of Defense mandates with respect to employee background and health directives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in GIS, Geography, IT or related field or, an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be substituted for a degree. Required
  • High School Diploma or equivalent Required
  • 3 years experience in an information systems environment, including systems analysis, design, integration, and implementation. Required
  • 2 years experience with ArcGIS Map, Arc Pro, or ArcSDE for SQL Servers Preferred
  • 1 year experience with GPS data collection. Preferred
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal communication and instructions. (required proficiency)
