Seeking a full-time Counselor, this is an 11-month position with 4 weeks off in the summer. The Counselor provides short-term personal mental health counseling to undergraduate students.
Duties and Responsibilities
Counseling services include mental health assessment, risk assessment, evidence-based counseling, treatment planning, and referral/linkage.
Provide crisis intervention services to the campus community. Crisis services include consultation, evaluation, risk assessment, safety planning, linkage to emergency care, and treatment planning.
Find and/or develop appropriate group counseling curriculum and facilitate group counseling sessions as needed.
Coordinate student transitions from on-campus mental health services to external providers.
Consult with students, faculty, staff, parents of students, providers, and community members.
Offer education, training, and programs to the campus community on various topics, including bystander intervention, sexual assault, suicide prevention, substance use, stress reduction, trauma, depression and anxiety, cultural competence, stigma, and advocacy.
Coordinate victim-survivor support services to campus community members impacted by sexual assault; collaborate with community partners to offer domestic violence response services.
Build and maintain collaborative relationships with campus departments and programs.
Work closely with key campus partners regarding counseling access, care, and services for students.
Participate in ongoing training and professional development.
Maintain complete, accurate, and timely case notes and documentation in a shared electronic record.
Qualifications:
Successful completion of a Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, or other related field.
Preferred Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) or Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) by the State of Wisconsin.
Minimum 3-5 years of related counseling experience preferred.
Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, parents, and other community members.
Ability to use a personal computer, including Microsoft Office Suite and Titanium software.
Requires the ability to maintain the privacy and confidentiality of student records.
Ability to exercise individual initiative, independent action, and sound judgment.
Demonstrated ability to handle challenging situations with confidence and function effectively with frequent interruptions.
Demonstrated expertise in the areas of organization, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
Requires knowledge of and the ability to use a variety of standard office equipment, such as a telephone, computer keyboard, copier, scanner, etc.
Knowledge of and/or experience working with students attending college or on a college campus preferred.
Additional training or certification in treatment for common mental health issues faced by college students is preferred.
