Summary:


This role is an opportunity to join our Technical Assurance team at Hershey's newest, state-of-the-art fulfillment center in Annville, PA. The facility plays a critical role in the company's strategic growth objectives, leveraging advanced technology and expanding capabilities for customer growth.

Major Duties/Responsibilities:


Troubleshoot and Maintain Equipment:
• Troubleshoot, diagnose, and repair plant controls systems, PLC's, motion controllers, machine vision systems, robotics, HMI's, AMRs, and electrical systems.
• Read and interpret drawings, diagrams, manuals, schematics, and blueprints to maintain and improve equipment uptime.
• Setup, configure, program, modify and improve PLC programs and SQL-based SCADA interfaces
• Provide 2nd level technical support to mechatronics technicians.
• Provide mentoring to maintenance, engineering, and manufacturing personnel on new and/or improved technologies.
• Coordinate with equipment vendors, engineering personnel, manufacturing supervision and production employees in the solution, design, and implementation efforts.
• Provide technical analyses (cost estimates, feasibility, specifications, interpretation of requirements), adhere to Hershey electrical standards, develop alternatives, and prepare recommendations for capital solutions to improve processes.
• Maintain continuous system operation by adjusting, repairing, replacing, or modifying automation/robotic system components.
• Maintain software, documentation, and equipment to the latest revision or operational specifications.
• Monitor automated system machine performance checking for trends and potential issues. Respond to machine alarms as they occur. Troubleshoot and identify the root cause and correct as needed.
• Diagnose and repair or replace malfunctioning apparatus and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, motors, generators, and fixtures.
• Perform advanced troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of plant electrical and controls systems.
• Support capital projects to eliminate controls obsolescence and improve plant quality, reliability, and uptime.
• Crosstrain peers to follow optimal process procedures.
• Develop and provide technical training to Technical Assurance personnel.
• Maintain continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and participating in daily pass down discussions.
• Update system manuals and maintenance & operating procedures.
• Participate in the maintenance and upkeep of the OT Network security procedures and policies.
• Advocate of Safe Working Practices and teaching those good habits to your peers.
• Serve as the Hershey Maintenance representative on the production floor, communicating with Hershey and third-party leadership to maximize machine uptime and reduce controls related issues.

Continuous Improvement:
• Propose and implement appropriate, timely, cost-effective corrective actions and continuous improvements. Validate the effectiveness of changes through KPI monitoring.
• Work with Reliability Leads, Mechatronics Technicians, Engineers, and other Controls Specialists to fine-tune the facility for maximum efficiency.
• Collaborate with Advanced Technology team on technologies, best practices, and solutions to maximize efficiency.
• Aide in the development and training of Mechatronics Technicians to bridge knowledge gaps in the electrical & controls field.

Maintenance Systems and Procedures:
• Utilize the SAP system to create maintenance work requests, verify equipment parts, assign time and materials to work orders and complete any outstanding tasks assigned in the system.
• Accountable for supporting continuous improvement efforts, including defect handling and breakdown elimination (root cause analysis), while supporting equipment centerline and autonomous maintenance activities.

Minimum knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform major duties/responsibilities:
• Demonstrates a breadth of expertise in several types of manufacturing equipment and related operations (Packaging, Systems Controls, Mechanical/Electrical).
• Previous experience maintaining and repairing robotics and production equipment.
• Must be able to read, accurately comprehend/interpret and follow instructions, blueprints, schematics, and test plans furnished in written, digital/electronic, or diagram form.
• Solid math and reasoning skills to prepare, compile and validate data/reports.
• Strong ability to interpret data, evaluate metrics, and apply appropriate problem-analysis or problem-solving techniques to accurately assess a technical production issue.
• Willingness and ability to learn new systems, techniques, and technologies.
• Proficient in the use of PC's and applications.
• Ability to troubleshoot down to PLC and board level.
• Must understand the National Electrical Code and NFPA 70-E.
• Perform PLC and control system troubleshooting and repair.
• Diagnose and replace malfunctioning apparatus and components, such as transformers, circuit breakers, fuses, motors, fixtures, PLC's, motion controllers and drives.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot a wide range of industrial I/O communication protocols, including fieldbus systems, point-to-point communication protocols, and Ethernet-based networks.
• Familiarity with sanitary maintenance practices and design.
• Must achieve a passing score on a written electrical assessment Basic knowledge of plant, fire and water sprinkler systems and their control systems.
• Ability to modify ladder logic as needed throughout various systems and programs.

Other Requirements:
• Strong analytical mindset.
• Strong knowledge of Allen Bradley PLC products including Studio 5000 software experience preferred.
• Demonstrated hands on experience in the implementation of SCADA level automation solutions with integration to MOM/MES platforms.
• Experience in leading/supporting multiple projects is required.
• Advanced knowledge of Industrial Control Network architecture, servers, virtualization, data integration & data historians is essential.
• Additional preferred experience includes: MES/MOM systems, Aveva PI and Ignition.
• Preferred experience with Continuous Improvement methodology.
• Preferred experience with Total Productive Maintenance (TPM).
• Preferred experience with Autonomous Maintenance (AM).
• Strong troubleshooting capabilities electrically and mechanically.
• Experience in food manufacturing with a strong focus on maintaining food safety, product quality, and adherence to Safe Quality Food (SQF) standards is highly desirable.
• Strong ability to follow directions.
• Strong ability to work independently, and in a group environment.
• Good interpersonal team skills.
• Good written and communication skills.
• Ability to understand and adhere to product specifications.
• Ability and willingness to train and assist new team members.
• Perform other duties as directed and assigned.

Work Environment:
• Work performed in a climate-controlled food manufacturing facility.
• A Safety-first culture where using the proper LOTO methods/procedures is required.
• The use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) is required. Included but not limited to safety shoes, ear plugs, safety glasses/goggles, bump camps, hair and beard nets, and gloves.

Associates of Electrical or Controls Engineering or Technical Certificate in Controls Engineering Technology with experience.
